AI is often seen as a magical fix-all. It’s not, but it is, says Sims Witherspoon, a powerful tool for unlocking communities’ problem-solving capacities. Witherspoon is a program manager at Google’s DeepMind, which made headlines when it reduced energy required to cool Google Data Centres by 40 per cent. Energy consumption is one of the problems AI can be used for, and DeepMind is working on it.

Reward function…that's the key.
Garbage in garbage out. Stop wasting resources on solving an invented non existing problem. Go is something totally different.
Interesting, thanks…some examples using blockchain for environmental sustainability are already in action…hopefully DeepMind and similar initiatives will add further momentum in this space
We always hear about 'Net Zero' carbon. {The balance between carbon dioxide produced and carbon dioxide removed from our atmosphere}. Q: How do you know when you have reached 'Net Zero' ?
One thing I have learned over time is when large corporations say that they are going to do (tackle/help) anything is they mean make profits even at the expense of life. What would happen if deepmind decided to many humans are the problem and decides it would be best to irradiate us in a subtle way.
could you apply your tools to efficienly studying john carters antigravity model and see if it is doable
What if God told you as a human being and as a white person that you'll system is going to take you out of business
This video looks like someone from the sales department giving a boring presentation.

There is always light in shadowy place
Demis talks about it with levels of energy and makes it interesting. This talk was soulless
Having run Wastewater Treatment Plants, OMG will this save a TON of power. There is tremendous savings to be had here. I could see MASSIVE MASSIVE potential.
How about allowing Google's DeepMind to figure out what the problems are and whether these problems exist first before you force it to solve a problem that may have no solutions to or impossible solutions because the problem isn't caused by whatever you think it is, but it is, in fact, a natural occurrence. We don't have empirical evidence on whether climate change is real and if it's even a problem for us.
Instead of forcing the world to adapt to us, it is we who needs to adapt to the changing world. Just like how Greenland became nothing but ice and Iceland became covered in nothing but forests and trees, there's far stronger evidence to support that climate change is a natural occurrence. You cannot stop nature.
Such an important talk
Whom the gods would destroy, they first make insanely arrogant and simple-minded.
